With Anzac Day fast approaching, let’s take a moment to honour and remember our soldiers who have risked their lives to make the world a better place. And we at Elinz Electronics are thankful for these brave souls for their unparalleled contribution to society.
Anzac Day is not just a significant event for Australians. It is also equally important amongst our friends in New Zealand. Every 25th of April, Australia and New Zealand celebrate to commemorate their people “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations” and the “contribution and suffering of all those who have served.” Originally, the event was to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps or ANZAC (where the name for Anzac Day is derived) who fought at Gallipoli against the Ottoman Empire during World War I.
Let’s take a trip down memory lane so we can further understand why April 25th is a very important day not just for Australians, but for New Zealanders as well. In 1915, the ANZAC force set out to capture the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey to open the way to the Black Sea for the other members of the Allied forces. They landed on the 25th of April at Gallipoli and met fierce resistance from the Ottoman Army. The ensuing battles resulted in heavy casualties and according to historians, 8,709 soldiers from Australia and 2,721 from New Zealand died by the end of 1915.
Although the ANZAC force failed to achieve their objective of capturing Constantinople, their actions during the campaign have made a tremendous impact and left a powerful legacy to their countrymen. The “Anzac legend” became an important part of the national identity in both countries and it has helped shape the way Australians and New Zealanders view and understand their past and present.
Today, Anzac Day is not just for honouring those who have fallen during WWI. It is also for remembering soldiers and servicemen and women who risked their lives to protect Australia’s and New Zealand’s interest both here and abroad and to help keep the peace in conflict-ridden areas. And because we know how hard it is to be away with loved ones, Anzac Day is also to salute the families and friends of these brave soldiers.
The entire Elinz Electronics team is extremely grateful for the sacrifices made by these amazing people. So on this special day, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks and our immense gratitude for the men and women who risked and are willing to risk their lives for the good of mankind.
