As the saying goes, "Knowledge is power." If you want to buy quality LED light bars, it's vital that you know a thing or two about them. In the previous posts, we have discussed some of the most important terminologies associated with LED lighting. In this article, we'll discuss more important terms to help you better understand and know what to look for when shopping for LED light bars and other LED lighting devices.
Key LED Terms You Should Know
1. Ambient
Ambient refers to the surrounding light level in a given area. It also describes the temperature in which an LED light source is expected to operate within. Ambient is also used to describe the light produced by the sun, moon, and other light fixtures nearby or within the same space.
2. Bulb
Typically, a bulb refers to an MR17 or E27 base light bulb. But when it pertains to LEDs, it describes a finished product that has the LED lights and electrical components installed and ready to be used by consumers. It is screwed and locked in place or pressed into sockets or contact terminals to form an LED lighting equipment such as the LED light bar in Australia.
3. Chromaticity
Chromaticity lets you know what an LED lighting device or a neutral surface (i.e. the road) would look like when illuminated by a piece of LED lighting equipment. Usually, it is called colour temperature and is measured in Kelvin.
4. CRI or Colour Rendering Index
Also sometimes called CCT or Correlated Colour Temperature, CRI measures the quality of light. It describes the amount of colour shift objects undergo when illuminated by a light source, like an LED light bar for instance, as compared with the colour of those same objects when illuminated by a reference or base light source of comparable colour temperature. The higher the CRI is, the shaper, crisper, and more natural-looking the light generated by an LED Light bar is.
5. Dimmer
Dimmers are typically used with 4WD LED bar light that operates on 12 volts DC. They are often used as an on and off switch for the lighting device. Dimmers are usually installed between the vehicle's power supply output and the light bar's power supply input.
6. Lumen maintenance
Lumen maintenance describes how well an LED light bar can retain its intensity when compared to a new one. A good LED bulb is generally capable of retaining 70% of its intensity after 40,000 to 50,000 hours of usage.
