We’re all worried about our health and wellbeing these days, on top of being worried about our family and friends. It is a global pandemic after all, and it’s safe to say that we’re all stressed out about how to live our lives in this new normal.
We do hope that you’re all doing well enough and that you’re all safe and healthy.
But to make sure of that, we’ve come up with a list of how you can make sure that you’re doing well and being safe, healthy, and happy even though everything that’s happening right now.
Here are 5 points that we’d like for all of you to consider:
How is your driving?
It’s an odd point to start with given that a lot of us are stuck at home due to the lockdowns, but we don’t stay at home 24/7 - we have to go on grocery runs or errands from time to time, and we have to drive to get to where we need to go.
Some of us still work professionally as drivers, too. To make sure that you’re driving safely, make sure to observe the following:
Keep an alert mind when driving. It’s easy to drift away and get lost in our thoughts while driving, especially now that roads are much more open due to less traffic and people staying indoors. While it’s easier to drive now because of less traffic, make sure that you’re still staying alert. Both eyes on the road, and both hands on the wheel.
Keep a log of your drives. Track where you’ve been when you head out just to make sure you’re safe. If you have a dashcam, make sure that it’s turned on. If you don’t have one yet, get yours here today.
Make sure that your vehicle is in tip-top shape. Check with your local mechanic, but make sure that you’re keeping social distance, or you’re wearing some PPE (such as a mask). Alternatively, get a TPMS and an OBD2 diagnostic tool, and get in touch with your mechanic via phone if you can!
And most importantly, sleep and rest well enough before a drive. This helps you focus better and keep your eyes on the road.
Are you getting enough exercise?
Exercise has tons of benefits, from strengthening our bodies and our immune system to having very real mental health boons. If you can exercise from home, do so and stay healthy even if we’re all stuck indoors for the meantime.
To make sure that you’re safe while you’re exercising, consider the following pointers:
If you’re heading out and going for a run, make sure to keep up with social distancing rules. Keep a distance of 1.5 - 2m from other people when you’re outside and on a run.
Eat healthily and get lots of rest before a run.
Most importantly, turn it into a habit. You might be tempted to just turn on the TV and grab a bag of chips from time to time and there's nothing wrong with that - but build a habit of exercising by sticking to a schedule of when you should exercise.
Speaking of eating healthy…
Are you eating healthy?
These past few months must have been the most stressful event for all of us all over the world, and it’s easy to turn to food for comfort - specifically, sweets and other junk food. To prevent that and make sure that you’re eating healthy, here are some tips from us:
Eat more whole foods. Non-processed food has more nutrients that can fuel you, making you feel more full as your body is getting the nutrition it needs. Try and stay away from processed food as much as you can.
Make sure that your food is fresh. The downside to whole foods is that since it’s all-natural; they tend to go bad faster than the processed ones. Your fridge is great for keeping whole foods fresh but if you’d like to eliminate bacterial growth from the equation while preventing freezer burn (on meats), you can vacuum seal your food.
Don’t have one yet? Here’s a link to our kitchen appliances, including our food vacuum sealers.
Plan out your meals. If you don’t plan your meals, more often than not you’ll probably overeat. Seal your food and sort it out in your fridge, and label them accordingly. If you can, you can also label your food with it’s estimated calorie count to keep to a healthy diet.
Is Your Home Safe?
Australia is a safe country to live in and we all enjoy relative safety and comfort. But if you’d like to make sure that your home is safe, especially for those that are more anxious because of everything that’s happening these days here are some tips.
Install a security camera system, or get at least an IP camera. This helps keep an eye on your property. Some of our security cameras here at Elinz even offer motion detection and alarm systems integrated with our security cameras, and that might help bring peace of mind to homeowners.
Make sure that you have locks on your doors and don’t forget them no matter the time of the day. This is extremely important and you’ll need to build a habit of securing entry and exit points in your home every single day.
Monitor who comes in and goes out of your home. This is another point that security cameras can help with. If you can turn away visitors in the meantime due to reasons related to COVID-19, do so especially if you have some people in your home that are at risk.
Are you de-stressing enough?
It’s important to remember that it’s not all doom and gloom these days. We understand that everyone might be anxious these days, but you need to get out of your head and have a little fun from time to time.
Here’s how you can do that:
Meditate or practice mindfulness. It doesn’t have to be something that’s “actual” meditation - just have some time to yourself and think about the good things that happened to you today. Breathe in, and breathe out for a few minutes - it makes a world of difference.
Music can be extremely helpful for that. If you’d like to get some speakers, we have a couple here at Elinz that won’t break the bank to help you meditate!
Exercise can also be a great way to de-stress. Like we mentioned earlier, it has both physical and mental health benefits. If you’re stressed, scared, or anxious, this is a great way to get out of your head. Go for a run or lift something - it truly works.
Practice a new hobby. It might be fixing your car, flying a drone, painting/drawing, or making something with your hands. It gives you something to look forward to, and it turns off the part of your brain that worries.
That’s it for today - we’ll continue with 5 more points tomorrow on staying safe and healthy these times.
