Welcome back to our answers round-up from our Quora feed, where try and help people out with their questions regarding a wide range of topics that might be related to our products.
Recently, we've been receiving a lot of answer requests regarding security cameras, road safety and dash cams- Here are some of the most interesting ones that we were able to answer on our feed.
(Speaking of road safety, if you haven't been able to read it yet, make sure to check out our previous blog post, where experts weigh in regarding the usage of dash cams, reversing cameras and their #1 tip for road safety.)
Without further ado, here are some of the best questions we've been able to round up from Quora:
Absolutely. Homes that have visible security cameras are less likely to be robbed. If you plan to employ the same strategy in your home, make sure that you are using a sturdy security camera that’s well mounted.
Don’t forget the vantage point either- you don’t want it too high as it might not be that visible, and you don’t want it too low as it might be tampered with (or stolen) by some people.
There was a study about this in the US, where neighborhoods were placed with security cameras, and monitored in the context of crime rates. It effectively deterred crime and lowered it considerably, compared to before the security cameras were installed.
Some factors that might also help with the deterring factor of a security camera are:
Surveillance cameras have been around for as long as we can remember, and has helped solve crimes (and in some cases, deter them). They’re important for keeping an eye on the things that we care about, when we’re not able to or aren’t physically there.
They’re important for homes and businesses all over the world, as theft and burglary remain to be one of the most common crimes in the known world. Security cameras help safeguard properties against this, if not outright intimidating anyone planning to burgle their way into homes.
The modern world is also quite busy, and families usually do not have plenty of time to spend with each other. Children and elderly people are often left at home by their working family members.
A surveillance camera helps families with setups like this. Some security cameras even offer WiFi connection that then connects to a mobile device. Sometimes, there is even a way to talk through a security camera like what we offer here at Elinz with some of our models.
There are tons of security cameras out there, but make sure that you’re picking the best one for your family, and make sure to pick out some advanced features so as not to be left behind.
Absolutely, security cameras do deter burglars! Just the presence of one out in the open, mounted on a very good spot/vantage point can be quite intimidating for anyone that’s looking to burgle your home or business.
If security cameras are threatening enough, some security cameras even have tracking capabilities, making it seem like whoever is walking in front of these cameras are being looked upon by an actual person controlling the camera.
Some security cameras even take it up a notch, offering flood lights when it senses motion in front of the camera. I can imagine the surprised reaction of whoever comes close to these areas that such a security camera can cover.
If you’re looking to deter burglars from your home or business, these are very good options to have.
Do not, however, forget to have the necessary features such as IR image processing and night vision. If your security camera isn’t deterring the burglar’s presence, then you should at least be able to capture their likeness on camera to catch them.
Better question: How is it not dangerous?
When people are calm, they drive the best. They make smart decisions, they give way, and they aren’t in too much of a hurry. A calm motorist understands that all of us, including him/her, will get to where they need to be. There’s no need to rush.
Now as for someone that’s irate, they make the worst decisions possible on the road. They speed up for no good reason, they try to overtake everyone and they are more prone to accidents than the regular motorist.
The worst part- they’ll involve other motorists on the road.
In that part alone, road rage is very, very dangerous. If you do recognize your temper when driving, make sure that it doesn’t lead up to a road rage.
Here are some ideas on how you can deter any beginning signs of road rage:
Preferably, dash cameras should be placed behind the rear view mirror, or just right below it, but make sure that it doesn’t impede your driving.
Don’t have it hang too low behind the rear-view mirror, as it might distract your driving and you might mistake it for something else while driving.
Some suction mounted-dash cams can be mounted on the side, or just right behind the rear view mirror, but you can also have some 3M tape mounted dash cams (which in my opinion, is an even more efficient way to get mount your dash cam).
Some dash cams even completely replace the rear view mirror or simply clip on it, which is great for people that don’t like having their view obstructed even just for a little bit when driving.
Refrain from purchasing dash cams that are mounted exactly on the dashboard; besides the airbag release, image stabilization is going to be one of those problems when it comes to that kind of mounting.
