Hey there - we know that it’s a dreary workday of a Tuesday, but that’s no reason to hang your head low; for those in Victoria, we’ve got a long weekend coming up this Monday with the Queen’s Birthday!
With this long weekend, you can generally do anything you’d like - you can stay at home, or you can go out (although with safety tips in mind - we’re not in the all-clear yet against COVID-19). If you do go out, make sure that you’ve referred to this page for what’s allowed, and what’s not: COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria.
Now what we’d like to recommend to shake off those quarantine blues, especially since a lot of parks have been reopened - enjoying the great outdoors!
We know that there are still restrictions in place, but as long as you stay within the bounds of these laws, you will be fine. Besides, getting some exercise is a great way to build up your immune system!
Without further ado, here are some activities that we recommend:
Highly recommended activities
While necessary, we understand that it might have been tough being in quarantine for the past few weeks. It’s good news that we’re progressing through the three-stage plan that the government, with restrictions, slowly easing and more and more businesses and activities becoming available.
Now if you’re planning on getting the most out of the long weekend that’s coming up, here are some activities that we highly recommend, while shedding off the doldrums of having to stay indoors for an extended period:
Hiking. Parks in VIC are all open now, so you can get to walking on a nature trail this coming weekend, and spend Monday resting up!
If you’re looking for trails to follow this weekend, check out this guide from Victoria Parks: https://www.parks.vic.gov.au/places-to-see/inspiration-and-ideas
If you’re not sure if you’re being safe, make sure to observe the general guidelines against COVID-19 while out on a hike:
Maintain good hygiene. Wash your hands or cleanse it as much as possible, especially if you’ve been out there hiking for quite some time. Avoid touching your face, especially your nose and mouth. Since water and soap won’t be available on the trail, bring a sanitizer, preferably with 60% or more alcohol concentration.
Continue to practice social distancing. This keeps not only you safe, but other people around you as well.
If you’re hiking with a group, make sure that you stay in a group of 20 or fewer people.
To make sure that you stay in touch in case an emergency comes up while you’re on the trail, make sure to bring the following to keep your electronics powered:
Power banks. We have a wealth of different power banks here at Elinz, from 10k mAh to 20k. If you have a bigger phone or other devices you need to keep powered, we highly recommend one of our solar power banks - perfect for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Make sure to keep a GPS tracker on the vehicle you came in on as well - especially for beginner bushwalkers and hikers. You can get lost easily if you do wander in further, so having a point of reference (which is your vehicle) is important. Get your car GPS tracker here today.
Biking is also a pretty good activity to dabble in during this time of transition - there are plenty of trails that you can try out as well, such as these:
You Yangs Mountain Bike Trail - this is an excellent bike trail, but make sure that you’re coming in on a mountain bike, and that you do your research on the different parts of the trail. Some parts can be quite challenging, dangerous, even, for the novice biker! Remember to stay safe and come equipped!
Gippsland Trail - This is a very, very easy trail that even beginning bikers can run on to shake off the blues of the past few weeks of quarantine.
Goldfields Track - While challenging, Goldfields can also be quite relaxing at some parts of the trail. Make sure to come well-researched on tracks you’ll be running on to keep safe and make the most of your biking trip.
These are all excellent trails with amazing views as well - you can take along an action camera with excellent stabilization to make sure you’re able to capture the action and save the memory of your run.
If you don’t have one yet, here’s one of our newer 4k cameras that you can mount to your helmet or your bike: 4K/60FPS Elinz Action Camera.
With all these adventures in tow, you’ll be sure to kick off the ennui of the past couple of months of quarantine!
But of course, it’s okay to spend this long weekend just hanging out with friends and family at home; after all, the government is still adamant about the fact that if you can stay home, you must stay home.
Whether you decide to head out or stay indoors this coming June 8, we hope you have a happy Queen’s birthday this Monday.
