It’s been a very long couple of months for all of us, and we hope you’re doing well. While plenty of restrictions have been lifted, there are still some that are in place that might hinder with your caravanning trips.
Some of you might have been planning a trip before the coronavirus, and obviously, it might have been canceled for the future (although not for long, if things continue to go well!). If you’re a caravan owner that has been wanting to take their caravan trailers, we’ll have to hold off for a bit more.
With some restrictions slowly being lifted by the government, we might be able to go caravanning again soon like we did before COVID-19. But for now, the directive remains the same: if you can stay at home, you must stay at home.
While we’re all in quarantine and doing our part to flatten the curve, that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with your caravan in your backyard! Here are some ideas that we’d like to share with you that you can try out safely from the comfort of your own home.
Prep Your Caravan Today for your future trips!
Caravan trailers need a lot of care. So while we’re all putting our trips on hold, now’s the best time to prepare for the best road trip when the quarantine is over. Here are some ideas that’ll keep you busy:
Set up your vehicle’s important gear. Dashcams and reverse cameras are necessary these days, and given how bigger caravans are than regular vehicles, you’d do well to set this all up ahead of time so that when the quarantines are lifted, you’ll be ready!
Dashcams and reverse cameras are quite easy to install; you can either plug them up via the cigarette lighter socket. For even better functionality, we recommend that you hardwire a dash cam or a reverse camera straight to your vehicle.
If you don’t know how, here’s a hardwiring guide for dash cams/reverse cameras from our website at Elinz.
Unfortunately, some of us might have bought a caravan before the pandemic; this is the perfect time to prep up, and get all the necessary stuff taken care of, such as:
If you have items that can't be broken when you eventually go out for a trip, secure a double-side adhesive to them so they stay stuck where you need to put them inside your caravan trailer.
Install a dash cam and a reverse camera. Dash cams help keep a log of your driving, and should anything happen, you'll have proof. Additionally, you can pull some video from it should you wish to make a video of your trips that your family can watch in the future!
Caravan trailers are huge compared to regular vehicles, and you need to get all the visibility you can get - that's definitely something a reverse camera can help with.

Use your caravan as an outdoor lounge for your family. For this, you’ll need a couple of must-haves:
A power inverter, preferably a pure sine wave inverter. All caravans should have one! A pure sine wave inverter converts the DC energy from your vehicle into usable AC energy for your electronics. It’s a must-have if you’d like to bring along some appliances into the caravan!
LED lights. You certainly wouldn’t want to lounge around in your caravan in the heat of the afternoon, and you wouldn’t want to fumble around your caravan without any lighting in the night; LED light strips are perfect for this if you’d like to transform your caravan into a bit of getaway for your family.
Any appliances that you think your family might enjoy- you can plug in a TV or a projector to the inverter and watch a movie with your family in the evenings, or maybe you can plug in a video game and have some fun outdoors, in the safety of your caravan? It’s a nice little getaway from the usual indoor setup that your family just might need.
Under the night sky and with the lighting from your LED light strips, you’re sure to have a memorable and relaxing night with this idea.
Have a bit of a barbie with your mates over the internet!
Set up your caravan’s flaps, warm up the grill, and get to cooking next to your caravan in your backyard! With an inverter, you could hook up a stereo or television to play some tunes or a movie, maybe even a recorded sporting event?
The important thing is that you’re having a great time with your family.
While inviting neighbors or friends is out of the question due to the quarantine, you can then open up Zoom or any kind of telepresence app and invite your caravanning friends to do the same - it should make for a really good time even when you’re confined to your backyard.
Best yet, if you’re talking to your friends that caravan, you can plan out your future caravan trips; the routes, the destinations, and the activities; it’ll give you something to look forward to once the lockdowns are lifted and should make for a productive and fun meeting.
Build a fort!
If you have kids, chances are that they’re already bored out of their little heads. Worse yet, they might be scared, with all that’s happening in the world right now. They deserve a little bit of fun that’ll help take their mind off things temporarily.
Build a fort leading up from their rooms into your caravan with some blankets & sheets, and prop the fort up with some sticks that might be lying around your yard. Have them help out and it’ll be a lot more fun!
Have them go on a quest, make a program that they can follow or play a scavenger hunt ending in your yard leading up to your caravan. Better yet, get some LED light strips to lead them and make it a little bit more fun.
This should help take their mind off things for a little while and it will also make for a fun evening for everyone involved!
That’s it from us - hopefully these ideas might make your days go by a little faster by having fun with the family. We hope to see you again soon when the roads are open again, well and safe!
