A not so happy Friday greets us today, as just yesterday there have been 723 new coronavirus cases recorded last Thursday, with 13 new deaths adding to the total tally. Our prayers and condolences go out to the families of these individuals.
We urge everyone that if you can stay at home, then you must stay at home. If your trip is not an important one or if you’re not going out to get essentials, then we urge you to reconsider and stay safe by isolating.
To help you all stay safe, here are some things that you should know, along with some tips and items that’ll help keep you safe during these hard times.
Workplaces are hotspots
As of yesterday, some officials confirm that plenty of people have been infected while working, or have caught the virus while in the workplace. Some cases are also linked to aged care facilities. So if your workplace allows you to work from home, then please stay at home.
If you can’t avoid going to work, please make sure to wear some form of protection. If you work in an environment that sees a lot of people coming in and going out, then it would be best to wear a mask.
If you’re still hesitant about how effective masks are, here’s a good look into how effective they are when it comes to blocking out the particles that can be carried from a sneeze, a cough, or just plain talking.
Regular surgical masks work just fine, but make sure that you’re buying from a trusted source. If you get exposed more than regularly to a lot of people, it doesn’t hurt to get a stronger form of protection, such as an N95 mask.
If you’re having a tough time finding them, do check out our health & wellness category to get your own today. If you’re a business owner and you’d like to protect your team, or if you’re representing a healthcare organization, please make sure to get in touch with us to get your own supply.
Speaking of masks…
Masks will be mandatory starting on Sunday across the whole state.
All across Victoria, it will be mandatory to wear a mask when you’re outside starting 11:59 PM on Sunday. So remember, if you’re going out to get the essentials this coming week, make sure that you have a mask handy.
If you’re driving, you don’t really need to wear the mask inside your car, provided that you’re all alone. If you have passengers, make sure that you’re all equipped with a mask.
Once you’re done with your errands, make sure to wash your hands completely before touching anything else inside your home, and dispose properly of your mask (if you’re using a surgical mask).
Wearing a mask doesn’t always mean protecting yourself - it’s also there to protect others from you. While the government is doing well in pushing for more mass testing, not all of us have been tested yet. Acting like we all have the virus already and keeping a good distance away from each other in the meantime does wonders to actually flattening the curve and making a difference.
Staying at home
While it's good that plenty of us are already isolating ourselves, we shouldn’t forget our health. There are a couple of methods to stay in the pink of health these days, which are:
Exercise. You don’t have to go out to get some exercise in - doing some HIIT exercises at home, getting on the treadmill (or without a treadmill, do some replacement exercises such as jumping jacks or burpees), or lifting weights if you have some at home helps a lot. By exercising, you keep your body active and your immune system strong, lessening the chances for you to get COVID-19.
Getting enough rest. Sleep is extremely important as it's the time when your body “repairs” itself, so make sure that you’re getting plenty of it. Work is important for sure, but make sure that you’re coping healthily through exercise and other hobbies. By allowing your body to rest, you’re giving yourself a better fighting chance against COVID-19.
Eating clean and healthy. There’s a simple trick to that - eat more whole foods rather than processed ones. One of the co-morbidities of COVID-19 is obesity, so do your best to keep your weight down by watching what you eat and keeping an eye on the amount you consume. Make sure to keep your food fresh as well by refrigerating your food or vacuum sealing it.
In case of emergencies…
It’s also important to stay ready for anything that can happen at home. Here’s a quick checklist of things that you should take a look at:
