Drones are such a huge bag of fun. If you have one at home, you must be having an excellent time at home even while in quarantine. It’s a great way to while away the time and take a break from watching Netflix, playing video games or doing your chores.
If you don’t have one yet, now’s the best time to get yours today! Follow this link here today to get yours via our listings with our different drones.
If you do have one, there are some general things that you should keep in mind while flying yours, and some extra precautions that you should take due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Let’s get started:
Fly it low.
If you’re just a beginner, you must stick to lower altitudes when flying your drone. Drones are a bit accident-prone if you’re not using them carefully, and higher altitudes are something that you should avoid especially if you haven’t been flying your drone for a long time.
Get some practice first, get a grip for the controls and make sure that you’re familiar with how it operates before trying it out in the higher altitudes.
If you’re familiar with your drone already, make sure that you limit your flight time in the higher altitudes, and stick to safer heights. You run the risk of flying it into power lines and other obstacles, not to mention some birds might bump into the drone (which, needless to say, is not a pretty affair any time of the day).
Additionally, keeping it low means that you’re able to see the drone and where it’s going reliably. Which brings us to our next tip…
Fly it only where you can see it.
If your drone doesn’t have a flight-pathing/GPS function or if you’re not too familiar with it, then make sure that you’re only flying the drone into areas that are still within line of sight. Even if your controller can sync with your phone and give you the camera drone’s feed, it’s still important to keep it within line of sight so you don’t run into accidents.
It’s not unheard of for some people to just lose their drones and fly it into dangerous obstacles when it’s not within visual range. We’re not gonna lie- good drones aren’t cheap, and you don’t want your money to go down the drain when you just want to have some fun.
Speaking of range…
Make sure that you’re still in range to control your drone.
When you purchase your drone, make sure that you read the manual and keep an eye out for how far you’re flying it! While our drones have fail-safes and prevent you from flying farther out than the maximum range of the drone and the controller, keep it safe and fly within range.
Most drones have a maximum range of 500M to stay connected with the controller, so make sure to keep it at that range. A good rule of thumb is if you can still see the drone and you can still make out some of the details on the drone, then you’re still within range.
If you do want to fly your drone outside our visual range or your controller’s range, only do it when you have a flight path set on it’s GPS settings. If your drone doesn’t have one, then stick to the prescribed range.
If you’re looking for drones with a GPS waypoint system, get our brand new MJX Bugs drone here, packed to the brim with a bunch of different features! If you're interested, do check out it's feature video here.
While on the topic, make sure that you don’t fly the drone directly above roads- a car might pass by and hit it which might cause an accident, not to mention it will wreck your drone!
Get tons of practice.
Drones are great fun, but they can be challenging to fly for first-timers or the unfamiliar. While some are more user-friendly than others, drones usually have a ton of different features that take a bit of time to master and get used to.
With mastery comes safety, you’d do well to keep safe by being familiar with your drone’s various features and controls.
Here’s a fun idea: make a small obstacle course in your yard composed of tyres or other items you can find in your garage, and practice your drone control flying through some of those obstacles! That should make for a rollicking good time, especially if you have kids with you in the house. Speaking of which…
Supervise your kids.
If you have kids at home and if you’d like for them to join in on the fun, make sure to check on them while they're flying the drone. Keep an eye on how they fly the drone and make sure to give them instructions based on the above guidelines.
Tell them to stick to the immediate area of your yard, and make sure that they don’t try to touch the drone when it’s in flight as it might cause some injuries!
The obstacle course we’ve mentioned above should make for a good challenge for your kids and will help them get well-acquainted with flying the drone!
Wash your hands and clean the drone.
After flying the drone, make sure that you wipe down its surfaces and propellers- you never know what it could catch in the air, especially if you’re flying it using the GPS waypoint system. Make sure to wash your hands after to keep safe during these trying times!
