With the COVID-19 continuing to spread rapidly all over the world and AU reaching more than 6,000 cases, we here at Elinz understand that it can be particularly challenging to get safety gear for use against the coronavirus.
Most stores have closed shop and it’s hard to find some face masks or thermometers to help protect you and your family. That’s why for a limited time only, we’ll be offering face masks and no-contact forehead thermometers at fair market prices. Best yet, we are still operational and you won’t need to go out just to get your supplies- we’ll deliver it straight to your doorstep.
For today’s blog entry, we’ll be answering some concerns related to face masks and how they can help protect you during this pandemic.
Do face masks work?
Of course, the best way to be safe from the coronavirus is to stay at home and avoid crowds, employing both quarantine and social distancing rules to prevent the spread of the virus. But we can’t completely put all our lives on hold; we need to grab supplies to continue living indoors. Some of us have important jobs that can’t be put on hold. Some of us work in essential industries to keep the world running.
Of course, we all need protection these days. Seeing as COVID-19 spreads through droplets, we need to protect the most immediate part where they can transmit- which are our respiratory airways, our nose, and mouth.
Surgical masks & N95 masks reliably keep these droplets out, blocking out COVID-19 from entering your respiratory pathways, and they DO work. So if you’re about to go out for a supply run even at your local grocery, if you’re leaving the comfort of your home, it’s best to equip yourself with a face mask.
Note, however, that it doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be completely safe from the virus; wearing a mask simply lowers the chance of you contracting the virus by providing much-needed protection for your immediate respiratory pathways.
What makes a coronavirus face mask
If you’re looking for face masks, you should also know that not all face masks work the same. Some can only filter out pollutants, but not particles; some, none at all and only provide a form of placebo for its users.
The coronavirus doesn’t discriminate and you need a mask that filters it out reliably for you to be completely safe when you’re outdoors.
Here’s what you should look for in a face mask & how you can use one properly
In a nutshell, surgical masks should have (1) a metal strip that can bend on its top part to be fitted over your nose, (2) should have three layers with colored side out that’s different from the cloth-like material that faces inward and (3), sturdy straps that can be securely attached to your ear.
N95 masks, as their name suggests, block out 95% of all airborne particles and provide the best protection. They’re harder to inspect if they work correctly, so make sure that you’re buying them only from trusted sources such as ours.
It’s best to use surgical masks, for now, to help flatten the curve, and N95 are considered as critical resources for use in hospitals; do consider that they’re best employed in hospital set-ups. If you’re a healthcare professional, do not hesitate to get in touch with us so we could provide you with a discount.
So, do face masks work?
Absolutely. But even though you have some, make sure that you’re wearing them properly. If you don’t need to go out, then don’t go out either- limit your trips to the essentials. But do surgical masks filter viruses?
They do but make sure that you try and limit your exposure to the outside for now. Should you actually come across an infected person and if they interact with you in different ways, that raises your chances of getting COVID-19 even if you were wearing a mask. It's best to act as if everyone is infected, and that counts you- which is why wearing a mask works for everyone.
So besides wearing face masks, make sure to never touch your face, wash your hands and maintain a good distance from other people during this time. If some people aren’t maintaining their distance from you, let them know or move away from that space to keep safe
