A
roof mount DVD player can make a huge difference between an enjoyable road trip and boring one. Believe it or not, installing this device in your car is the simplest and perhaps the most affordable way to transform boring long drives into entertaining road trips. However, setting up the device may look daunting at first but if you have background in electrical wiring and connection methods, the process can be quite simple. Here are the steps on how to do it.
Step No 1. Before proceeding with the
roof mount installation process, the first thing you need to do is gather all the needed tools. You'll need an electrical drill, Philips and flathead screwdrivers, electrical tape, wire crimper, and utility knife. Also, bring out and ready the device's installation frame, its metal bracket, a cutting template, extension lead, and the main unit.
Step No 2. Decide on the place of installation. Take note, however, that the roof mount DVD player should be placed in such a way that it's comfortable for everyone to watch without any problem. Once you have chosen the best location, use the cutting template as your guide. Mark the spot where you'll place the device and determine which part of the roof's upholstery should be removed. Then, using the utility knife, start cutting the upholstery on the roof about the size of the metal bracket. Drill four holes (about 1cm deep) on the exposed metal part of the roof using the electric drill. Fasten the metal bracket into the roof and screw it in tightly.
Step No 3. Drop one side of the headliner to expose the wires in your car for further connection. You will also need to locate the fuse box. To avoid hindrance while you work with the roof mount installation process, it is recommended that you diffuse your car's vanity light. You will also need to remove the lower and upper trim panel along the line of the sun visor by using a flathead screwdriver. Then, unscrew all the remaining clips, screws, and kick panel situated over the fuse box in the front part of your vehicle.
Step No 4. Insert the extension lead into the space created by the metal bracket and pull it carefully until its one end reaches the area where the fuse box is located. Connect it to the 12V power source, making sure that the audio and power wires of the
roof mounted DVD player are wired properly. Don't forget to exclude the black wire. After connecting all the wires, use a wire crimper to cut the ends of the wires and secure it with electrical tape. Then, ground the black wire that you have excluded before. Once you're done, conceal the wires behind the panels that you have removed earlier.
Step No 5. When it comes to wiring the device, always refer to the owner's manual so as to not overcomplicate the process. This will help you determine where the wires should be connected. Also, use all the screws and supplementary accessories that came along with the
roof mount DVD player.
Step No 6. Reattach the panels and the vanity light that you have previously removed. Place the roof mount DVD player to its installation frame and screw it in tightly. Connect the other end of the extension lead to the device's monitor. And finally, attach the installation frame and the device to the metal bracket on the roof of your vehicle. Now, you're ready to watch your favourite movies on the go.
