Hey team, happy Tuesday!
We cannot stress enough how important visibility is when driving. Driving normally already carries with it an amount of risk, how much more when we’re driving in reverse?
Granted, of course, that we only drive in reverse for a small amount of time; usually, we only do so for minutes at a time if not seconds. But in those few seconds, a lot can happen: your car can hit another parked vehicle or a barrier/item; worse yet, you can hit another person or a small animal that you can’t see from the driver’s seat.
There have been cases of small children and animals running into reversing cars causing injury and sometimes, death. As a motorist, you certainly would not want to be part of any such event like that.
Factor in regular accidents caused by speeding, and regular everyday misunderstandings out there on the road - things that could’ve been avoided with some courtesy and awareness out there on the road.
Being careful makes all the difference. So if you’re a defensive driver like a lot of us, you’d do well to make your car a little safer even during this quarantine season.
So while we’re all in quarantine, we’d like to recommend some tips on how you can make your car safer through superior visibility, especially now that we’re seeing less and less COVID-19 cases in VIC; the roads might reopen soon and you’ll need all the help you can get.
Without further ado, let’s get started!
Driving in Reverse: Easier With Extra Eyes!
Do you know the expression, “eyes on the back of your head”? While only some people have this near-supernatural awareness, you can get this with a reverse camera installed in your car. They come in all shapes and sizes, perfect for all kinds of cars (as they also come in different shapes and sizes).
If you’re a regular everyday driver using their car to go to and from work, or the weekly grocery run (if you’re like us staying at home for now and staying safe), a small reverse camera should be good enough.
Here are our recommendations:
Rearview Mirror Reversing Camera: this category is perfect for a wide range of vehicles even for bigger vehicles, but some of our variants are also easy to set up within your vehicle, and doesn’t involve too much wire-work for your car. The monitor can be clipped comfortably on any rearview mirror, leading to a much more natural reversing/backing-up process for drivers that are used to their old rearview mirrors.
This License Plate reverse camera is the perfect reverse camera for smaller vehicles, which you can simply mount on your license plate and connect to an internal display.
Bigger vehicles can be a little bit safer out there on the road with our bigger reverse cameras that you can see here: Multiple Camera Reverse Camera System
Extra Insurance In the Form Of Dash Cams!
Dash cameras are great for making sure that you have everything recorded on your drives; if you consider that cars are massive, multi-ton pieces of steel flying at speeds that can harm property and other people, it's not so crazy to use a dashcam.
If you know you’re a careful driver or if you need to improve your driving, nothing helps better than a dash cam. Since you know that the cameras are rolling, you’ll be forced to make better decisions and be a little bit more courteous when you’re out there.
Additionally, you can have undeniable proof of what occurred out there on the road should an accident happen.
If you don’t have a dashcam yet, now is the time to get one - get yours here today where we have a host of dash cams for all kinds of vehicles and needs.
Eliminate Mechanical Issues With Diagnostic Tools
If you’d like to make sure that your vehicle is safe in all aspects especially in the technical sense, making sure that you have an idea of how your car is and if it’s in good shape is part of the best way to keep it running well out on the road.
This eliminates the possibility of accidents related to vehicular failure. Although slim, taking out that factor helps with keeping you safe.
The best way to do this is to separate your car and your tyres - and have diagnostic gear for both of them. Make sure that your tyres are well inflated with a TPMS or a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and get an OBDII diagnostic scanning tool to make sure that your car’s machine is in great shape.
Should any of these notify you of any issues, having it taken care of earlier instead of driving it around (which could exacerbate the issue) will save you time, money, and effort.
