To say that these times are stressful is quite the understatement of the century. COVID-19 has caused the world so much trouble, to say the least, and has taken the lives of so many people all over the world.
We hope that you’re staying safe and indoors these days, or if your work needs you to be out and about to some degree, please make sure that you’re protecting yourself through some PPE/Personal Protective equipment such as masks, face shields, gloves or cleaning implements.
Besides staying safe, staying cooped up indoors can do some real damage to both our mental and physical states. While there isn’t an actual psychological illness that can be attributed to what is called cabin fever, its effects are very real. It’s a real condition that many of us have been feeling, with varied effects, especially if you’ve been living in an area that has been placed on lockdown for quite some time.
Not to mention, plenty of us will lead sedentary lives, usually without exercise since we’re all just indoors, anyway.
We’d like to share some knowledge on how you can stay healthy, both mentally and physically during these trying times. Let’s get started!
A healthy tummy leads to a healthy body!
How have you been eating these past couple of months? We’re all guilty of eating way more junk, or just generally unhealthy food than we’re supposed to these days (I know I have). A lot of us eat our stress and feelings away, and we get it - we do it too.
A lot of us might have gained weight during this time, but we’re here to let you know that it’s not impossible to lose weight (or maintain it, if you’re at your ideal weight) - you just need to trick your brain into doing so. Here are some quick tips to do that:
Plan out your meals. By sticking to a meal plan, you’re not “winging” your meals; having that means that there’s something that you can follow and that you can stick to it.
Pre-prepare your food. We tend to just eat whatever’s near us when we’re in a rush or when we’re busy - so make sure to set aside some time daily or weekly to pre-prepare your food. This gives you less reason to flake out on your meal planning and helps you eat properly, too.
Eat more whole foods. This means food that isn’t processed - so you’ve got veggies, eggs, beans, meat - as long as it's not processed, the better.
And your body will thank you for it.

It’s hard to meet up with friends these days, if not downright impossible especially if you live in VIC where it’s advised to visit other houses or go on a trip with your friends for now.
It can get pretty lonely at times, especially if you’re living alone. Even if you were living with your family, a friend or a loved one, you’ll still need to socialize and see your friends from time to time. These are very sad times we’re living in; you’ll need all the help you can get to keep ongoing.
To blow away the blues from time to time, here are some recommendations:
Play a game with your friends online. There are plenty of co-op (cooperative games) online games out there from providers such as Steam. They don’t cost a lot and most require just a few dollars to purchase to play online. You don’t even have to be a gamer; plenty of games are playable even for those that don’t have the know-how.
Schedule a weekly call with your closest friends. Getting on a call with your closest friends and just talking about stuff is about as real as a hangout we can get these days. But it does help - and the best part is that you just need a working internet connection. Jump on Zoom or Skype, and you’re good to go.
Call your family and friends. Some of us don’t have the means or the internet connection to jump on a Zoom call, so just give your family a call and you’d be good to go! In these times where we’re all separated from each other, a single phone call makes all the difference to you feeling less alone in the world.

Give yourself time to relax
Like what we said, these are extremely stressful times. Whether you're working from home or you're working in the essentials and healthcare industry, we all go through different kinds of stress and pain during the pandemic.
Whether you're staying indoors or if you're still going to work these days, we'll all feel some form of helplessness during this pandemic. But the solution isn't to bury yourself in more work or turn to alcohol or substances. Just take the time to breathe, eat right and get ample rest and sleep.
Other activities such as playing video games are good in short bursts, but they shouldn't take up your entire day - remember that relaxation can also be induced by exercise and/or meditation/breathing exercises. Remember, the key is moderation!
