It is extremely hard to be productive during this quarantine. Besides the anxiety of everyday living, while cooped up, there’s the worry of COVID-19 always just behind our shoulders, which, while isn’t 100% life-threatening, is still quite worrisome.
If you’ve been struggling with focus (like most of us), we completely understand and you’ll find no judgments here! On the contrary, we’d like to provide you with some tips, tricks, and items that can not only help you beat the quarantine blues but also help you be more productive even during these tough times.
Let’s get started!
Keeping Your Focus
If you’re being plagued by the complete lack of focus and the availability of so many distractions at home, we’d like to let you know that you’re not alone! A lot of us are still getting used to working from home even if it's been more than a couple of months.
A lot of distractions are easy to reach these days since we’re all at home, after all - you’ve got the TV, your console or your handheld gaming device (if you own one), your mobile phone, and a lot of other distractions -- on top of that, you know that no workmate is over your shoulder watching you so it’s easier to just play it cool and lax the day away.
Here are some things that we can recommend to help keep you in focus not just at work, but at your chosen project during this quarantine:
Turn off your social media notifications. It’s hard to focus when you hear your phone beeping every few seconds, telling you of a brand new notification every second, every minute. Instead of keeping your attention where it's supposed to be, it just lets you know that someone tagged you in a photo/mentioned you/like your pictures, etc,.
Listen to some music. While the “Mozart Effect” has been disproven, that doesn’t mean that you can’t listen to music to help you focus. In fact, some scientists have found that classical music works for the most part because a lot of the pieces are at 60-80 BPM; this suggests that slower music tends to break focus less and usually reinforces it. This has led to the suggestion that some people work better when slow and sad music plays in the background!
Keep those in mind when you’re listening to music next time. Best yet, we have some amazing gear available here at Elinz that can help you play your favourite tunes to help you focus:

Don’t watch something, and keep yourself away from visual distractions. So that counts television, but that also counts other people at home! Keep away from them and better yet, separate your workroom from the rest of the house so it still feels a bit like going to work.
Keeping Your Mind Healthy
There’s no doubt that some of us are struggling mentally through all this, and it’s tough just getting through the day without thinking negatively of what’s happening these days. If you have an existing condition, there is no doubt that you should stay in touch with your physician to keep you on track for treatment or medication.
Nevertheless, here are some simple tips for keeping your mind healthy:
Get enough sleep and rest. A lot of us might think that because we don’t have set schedules now due to COVID-19, you can binge on all the series that you haven’t watched yet or play all the games you want well into the night - while that is true and you can do all that you want to keep sane these days, but don’t forget that a healthy mind thrives with an appropriate sleep schedule, sticking close to the circadian rhythm.
Having trouble sleeping? Get your wireless earphones, turn off your phone notifications, and get some binaural beats playing while you go to sleep. It’s been proven to raise DHEA and melatonin, both of which contribute to healthy, restful, and most importantly, timely sleep.
Keep in touch with friends and family. Jump on a skype or zoom call with friends and family once or twice a week, especially if you’re living alone. COVID-19 has hampered with our plans to get in touch and physically be with our loved ones, but thankfully we have the technology to keep connected.

Exercise. We cannot stress enough how important exercise is not just for the body but also for the mind - so when you do get the chance, make sure to keep your heart pumping and your sweat rolling for at least 20 minutes, thrice to five times a week.
Take care of your anxieties. Are you worried about the security of your home? Or maybe you’re worried about your car? Are you worried about the power going out and not having anything to keep your work-related electronics (such as your laptop or phone)? That can be easily remedied with a few concessions - equip your home with security cameras and get some alternative power sources, for starters.
