We get it, the holiday foods are irresistible! The Christmas cake, BBQ, ham, turkey, and cold meat was amazing. Whatever the food was, the holiday season is just another reason for us to enjoy good food with our mates. Just thinking about it gives me a flashback of how great the holidays went! The fun and warm feeling we get just chilling around with our family and friends doing nothing was irreplaceable. And we all deserve the fun and quiet after everything that 2020 did. So don’t feel guilty! You deserved that break.
But, now that the holidays are over you’re probably thinking about how to get rid of all holiday gains! And just like you, we’re thinking of the same thing. So, we have gathered around 5 tips on how to stay fit after the holidays (Since you’ve probably put your exercise on hold just like us)
1. Take it slow and don’t feel guilty
You’re probably thinking, “I’m disciplined”, “I have my goals”, and etc, and yet you weren’t able to stick to your diet and workout during the holiday season. And that’s okay! You don’t have to feel guilty about spending a couple of weeks relaxing and eating with your family. So take it slow and don’t be too hard on yourself.
Also, taking it slow after a couple of weeks’ break from a workout will do your body good. When you take breaks from a workout, your body deconditions itself. Meaning, your body is not as ready as it was before the holiday break, where you probably workout 4 to 5 times a week. This is also regardless of the intensity of your workouts before your holiday break. So, the best thing to do is to take things slow and start with lighter exercises. Eventually, your body will recover and you will then be ready to increase your workout’s difficulty and get back to your old workout.
2. Set Goals
Results might not be as drastic or as early as you want them to be so when that happens, you need your goals to set you in the right direction and to keep you going. Setting goals can help you stay on track and motivated when you’re feeling like you’re not making any progress.
Set goals that are small, simple, time-bounded, and doable. First, small and simple goals, when achieved can give you a sense of accomplishment and build your confidence. This also helps you stay motivated and have a feeling and that you can accomplish your bigger goals. Next, time-bounded goals give you a deadline to focus on and a sense of urgency to do something to achieve your goals. Lastly, doable goals make sure that you are aiming for something realistic and achievable. This also gives you a sense of motivation to stick to your goals and their timeline
3. Don’t forget to stretch
Since you have been away from the gym for a long period of time, your muscles need to be stretched properly before starting your workout to prevent injuries. Proper stretching can go a long way. Take at least 10 to 15 minutes of stretching before working out. This can help loosen up your muscles before a workout, avoid suddenly tearing your muscles, and maximize your performance. While stretching after a workout helps relax your tight muscles and improve your circulation. Better circulation help prevent muscle soreness and stiffness after a workout.
4. Get a workout buddy
Having someone with the same goals as you can make workouts more fun and enjoyable! Not only that, you have someone who understands the importance of each workout, the pain every after a workout, and each small goal that you both achieve. Both of you can motivate each other and keep each other on track with your goals. When the going gets tough, you can lift each other up or even challenge each other to keep things going.
You and your workout buddy can also add modifications to your typical workouts at the gym depending on what both of you enjoy. Like, sports, yoga, dancing, running, or even home exercises.

5. Take breaks when necessary
I know you want to get back on track as fast as you could, but your body deserves a break too! And no, I don’t mean a week-long break or a couple of cheat days. Just a one day break to relax and not overdo your muscles. Pay close attention to what your body tells you. How is it responding to your workout? Are you overdoing things? You might have pulled a muscle and not realized that you have to modify your workout routine.
Signs that might indicate that you need a break are fatigue, prolonged soreness, and a loss of motivation to train. When that happens, a few days’ rests is what you need. And to better take care of your body, you can massage your muscles to help them relax and to ease up the soreness. The Elinz Electric Massage Gun is perfect to keep your muscles relaxed after a tiring day of working out. This massage gun has 20 adjustable speed levels that allow you to adjust the speed, giving you a more appropriate and comfortable massage. Getting back in shape after the Holidays can be challenging and results can vary from one person to another, so don’t be too hard on yourself. Just remember to set your goals and stick to them.
