Hey there! We’re nearing the end of the week and we hope you’re having an easy time of it so far. Recently, we’ve been receiving quite a lot of questions over on our Quora feed about IP security cameras and one question always popped up: what makes an IP security camera better than other security cameras?
The short answer: nothing - IP security cameras, like other security camera systems, have their own uses, and have appropriate applications. Just because one thing can do something, doesn’t mean it’s better than the rest. Different people have different needs, after all.
But for those of you, that’s been looking to upgrade to more recent surveillance tech, or if you’re looking for a semi-modular approach to security, then IP security cameras are the way to go.
Today, we’ll explore the various situations and circumstances where you might need an IP security camera over any other security camera variant out there, on top of discussing some options and a few product recommendations from us.
Let’s get started!
Reason #1: You Have An Area With Minimal Floor Space.
Whether it's your home or your business, you have to consider your property’s size when you’re out buying some security cameras. CCTVs can still be used in small properties, but take note that they will still require a DVR hub which will still take some space (and money to buy).
IP security cameras are different - they don’t need a hub where they offload the video feed just for it to get stored; it can offload the video either to an attached SD card or via the internet; IP does mean Internet Protocol, after all.
Small flats such as these need only 1 IP Security camera for surveillance.
Plus, you can get IP cameras in ones or twos only, without the hub - they can exist independently of each other and don't have to be on the same network. In fact, one can be connected to the internet, and the other one can just be set to record continuously without ever connecting to the world wide web. Set down an IP security camera in one corner of the room, and it won’t have to take up too much space.
Reason #2: They’re easy to set up.
While it’s true that most CCTV security camera setups are also fairly easy to install (especially for systems that just have 1 to 2 cameras), there’s no doubt that IP cameras are way easier to install compared to them. The reason being - you won’t have to lay out cables for connection; the only cable you’ll probably need to layout is the power cable from the camera to your outlet (which is extremely easy). Not to mention, a lot of IP security cameras don’t even need an outlet - some have internal batteries and can be set to motion-sensing only, which can possibly keep a security camera running for an entire year (at max)!
Another factor that most homeowners might like is that they pretty much plug and play - pick them up, set them down where you think is appropriate and where they’ll be able to cover a lot of ground, and it’s good to go! If you want it to connect to the internet, it’ll take a little bit of tinkering but for the most part, it is extremely easy to set up. Most of our IP cameras here at Elinz are easy to set up and fix too - so if you’re considering buying brand new security cameras, do swing by our categories.
Now that we’ve mentioned motion-sensing…
Reason #3: They’re chock-full of features even in a small frame.
If you thought that CCTV security cameras have more features than IP, you’d be wrong - IP security cameras are surprisingly full of features that you didn’t think would fit in their small, diminutive frames.
IP security cameras these days have motion sensing and tracking, on top of auto pan-tilt-zoom features (also known as PTZ), they can have pretty robust integrations that help you get the most out of the security camera. Some security camera feeds, you can access with any mobile device that’s authenticated to do so, which make them an interesting solution for very busy people.
Recent shifts in tech have also called for smart home technology, and plenty of security cameras satisfy this need making homes safer and more convenient.
If you’re a big fan of smart home technology or just new tech in general, you’ll love IP security cameras and what they can do for home security.
Reason #4: They’re very affordable and provide the best value for money.
If you’re looking to save some serious cash while making sure that your home is safe and watched over, then IP security cameras are the solution.
Sure, some CCTV setups can be very affordable here at Elinz, but IP cameras are undoubtedly the winner when it comes to cost efficiency and affordability.
