Happy humpday, everyone! Today, we'll be looking at some questions we've answered on Quora (which you can always visit and ask us a question, if you're ever interested) regarding security cameras, dash cams, and disputes or concerns related to security.
It's been an interesting couple of weeks so far in our Quora feed, and without further ado, we'd like to share it with you here:
They just might, but you really can’t tell who might be looking to break and enter into your home; there’s just no way of telling if there’s someone like a seasoned burglar eyeing your house/property, or if it’s an amateur.
Note however that not many people make a career out of criminal activity, so it just might work.
What does work, however, is an actual security system. In an article, Guardian UK had a panel of former experienced burglars and they asked what actually works. According to this panel, the answer is simple: a combination of barking dogs and well placed security cameras.
Security cameras have long been known as effective deterrents as they tend to spook plenty of people. In the case of a successful B&E, a security camera will be able to capture certain details about a person that might not be evident, which can always help law enforcement.
Nobody likes being around a big, angry dog, either. So couple a security camera with that, and you’ve got yourself a pretty effective deterrent.
Be careful though that you don’t install a fortress of security cameras in your home; this sends a wrong signal other than being deterrent, and this attracts the attention of the more experienced bunch, telling them that there might just be something inside of your home that might be working breaking into and dodging some pretty angry dogs.
Do take this answer with a grain of salt - in my opinion, effective security systems are a combination of surveillance, deterrence and denial of entry. Security doesn’t end with dogs and cameras; you have to invest in locks, alarms and other safety measures to completely secure your home.
Plenty of good reasons.

Security cameras became commonplace around the 70’s-80’s, and banks were the first to employ them in an effort to make banks more secure.
Banks have a lot of money in them at any given time and that’s what necessitates the use of security cameras. Over time, technology for cameras in general started becoming more developed and advanced, and most importantly, affordable.
More and more businesses started adopting these into their security detail, until it became available for homes.
Today, the best thing that you can do to keep an eye on your home and deter criminal activity from it is setting up a security camera at a visible vantage point. Whenever someone would plan to do something extremely anti-social, they would usually pick homes or locations that have less security.
Now, they’re even more commonplace, with some countries like the UK even using hundreds of thousands of security cameras to deter crime wherever possible.

This is a complicated question, but for the most part- yes, they can do that as long as it’s not directly pointing towards an open window, and provided that it’s not recording audio from your home.
The rules vary from country to country, but general privacy rules do apply. Usually, when your neighbours do this, it seems like they’re eavesdropping or spying on you given the nature of most security cameras and the way their lens look, but some would be surprised that it isn’t even capturing anything important from the other home.
Sometimes, it’s just for security, and nothing else.
If you’ve known your neighbour to be a reasonable and nice enough neighbour, it doesn’t hurt to have a calm conversation about it. They might even show you what the feed looks like and what they’re able to capture.
Like what the other have mentioned in this answer, depth of field is also important; it might be that the security camera isn’t even picking up on very private details from that far away.
If you do have a security camera trained directly on your window, that’s when you can complain or file a case for - that’s when things start to get sketchy.
If the security camera is installed so close to your property, be careful that it isn’t picking up on audio - again, ask your neighbor. Failing that, ask an official in your area to mediate.
The best purpose? There are a couple, since you can’t really say how, when, where or why crime and criminality occurs in your property.
I would say that the biggest advantage and purpose of home security is deterrence. Security cameras, fences, even barking dogs or blinking alarm systems near your home all sends a signal that your home is not a target - it’s a bad idea to try and break and enter and/or burgle your home.
If you’re thinking of using security cameras at home, make sure that they’re set high enough to capture as much footage and avoid tampering, but not so high that they’re not seen - they need to be visible to deter ne’er-do-wells.
Just in case it doesn’t work, that’s where the footage of your security camera actually comes in handy- it gives you evidence that can help you follow up with law enforcement.

If you’re looking for a car security camera, you can either choose to get an IP camera that you can leave on the car, or you can either get a dash cam that has motion detection.
Let’s clarify both options:
If you’d like to be discreet about a car security camera, you can get a hidden camera that you can either mount on the dashboard, or behind the rear seats. You can see them here.
Alternatively, (and definitely the best option in our opinion) is getting a dual dash cam
with motion detection functions. For this one, you’ll need to hardwire it, since you certainly don’t want it running 24/7 - it will drain your battery.
Instead, it records only when motion is nearby, which is a great alternative to having it record 24/7.
