Yes, they can! A popular example of this technology is when its incorporated with dual dash cams that have motion detection technology; the moment it picks up on any motion near it, it starts recording and shows whoever comes near a set proximity to the vehicle.
Of course, this means that you’ll have to set the dash camera to a different power source; if its just plugged up to the cigarette charger socket, then it won’t really power up when someone comes near.
You’ll need to hardwire the dash cam into the car battery, or any perpetually running power slot located in the car’s dashboard- you’ll just need a little bit of wire and wiring know-how.
